2020/21 Registration

Registration for the 2020/2021 Season is now closed!  We are currently full in all age categories and are working through the few remaining on the wait list.  Please watch this space for further updates if we are able to open up certain age groups in the future.

Program Outline:

  • The season will consist of two sessions:
  • Session 1: October to December 2020
  • Session 2: January to March 2021.
  • There will be no tryouts or hockey school.
  • Groups will be formed taking into consideration age, skill level based coach ratings and recommendations as well as registration numbers.
  • Currently we are restricted to a maximum of 25 participants on the ice (this includes referees, players and coaches) and 50 participants in any facility.
  • The City of Hamilton will permit 1 spectator per participant, subject to screening and adherance to Public Health guidelines. Details are on our website under Harry Howell Arena Protocols.
  • On-ice activities will include conditioning, skills development and some controlled scrimmaging. Physical distancing must be maintained in all drills and scrimmages.
  • Games will be limited to 4 on 4 in small groups. There will be no games or tournaments. This may change as the season progresses, but neither is anticipated until at least January.
  • Jerseys will be provided however, socks will not be provided. Until jerseys arrive and can be distributed players are asked to (if possible) bring a light and a dark jersey to their ice times.
  • No player movement can occur between groups.

Public Health Protocols:

  • All participants must follow the health protocols mandated by the Province of Ontario, the City of Hamilton, Public Health and the OWHA.
  • At this point in time, the City of Hamilton and the OWHA are not permitting the use of dressing rooms.
  • Players must arrive to the rink fully dressed (skates, helmet and gloves can be carried into the rink.
  • For younger players, a parent volunteer will be assigned to wait at the door and direct players to the correct area, if required.
  • Each team will have a Safety Ambassador greeting participants and confirming that they have completed their COVID screening and are eligible to participate.
  • COVID screening will be at the door to start and then will transition to the RAMP Team App once players are assigned to team rosters.
  • Face coverings must be worn in all public spaces in facilities including non-players who are on the bench.
  • Players will not be required to wear masks while on the ice or when players are on the bench.
  • Staff and spectators must wear masks at all times.
  • No drinks (apart from player's water bottles) will be allowed in the facilities.
  • Public Health restrictions mean that the City of Hamilton is limiting the number of people in the building. The limitations are shared in the Harry Howell Arena Protocols information on our website.

Session 1:

This session will run from October 1st to December 31st and will be made up of at least two weeks of skill development and then transition into 4 on 4 games. We are working with other local associations to determine our extended bubble for games, and we will share more information as it becomes available.

U9 - U15

Two x 60 minute ice times per week for 12 weeks (We will have ice Thanksgiving weekend).

U18 - U21

One x 60 minute ice times per week for 12 weeks (We will have ice Thanksgiving weekend).

Session 2:

This session will run from January to March and will either be a continuation of the development format of session one, or a transition to a more traditional program, if permitted under regulations set out by the province, the city and the OWHA.

Given the uncertainty of the pandemic and the evolving situation, more information on the second session will be communicated later this fall. The Session 2 Fee will be due on January 15th and will cover ice and officials between January and March.

Please note that new groups will not be formed for the second session, they will remain consistent for all of 2020-21.

Fee Structure:

It's important to point out that costs for hockey in 2020-21 will be impacted by restrictions in place regarding ice capacity and the limited availability of open arenas. The FGHA Board has done it's best to mitigate the impact, but larger teams will require whole ice practices where in a normal environment, 2 teams would share the ice for practice. Teams at the U18 level do not practice during the regular season, and therefore consume significantly less ice time. The FGHA Board believes that the fees below represent a blend of offering a quality program for the players, while keeping costs in line as best they can.

Fees for the 2020-21 Season are structured in three parts:

  • The Association Fee ($165) covers and insurance is non-refundable.
  • The Session 1 Fee covers ice and officials from October to December
  • The Session 2 Fee covers ice and officials from January to March
  • Please note, Session 1 and 2 Fees would be refundable on a pro-rated basis, subject to the FGHA refund policy. Please note, we are reviewing our refund policy to accomodate session fees as above, and we will publish the updated policy soon.

U9-U15 Total Fee: $585

U18-U22 Total Fee: $360

Payment schedule:

  • Association Fee (all groups): $165 - due now
  • Session 1 Fee - U9 - U15: $210 - payable by November 1st
  • Session 1 Fee - U18 - U21: $97.50 - payable by November 1st
  • Session 2 Fee - U9 - U15: $210 - payable by January 15th
  • Session 2 Fee - U18 - U21: $97.50 - payable by January 15th

**At the present time, we are unable to offer U7 (IP/Fundamentals) but hope to run this program when it is safe to do so.

2020-21 Refund Policy:

With the uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the FGHA is implementing the following refund policy for the 2020-2021 season:

  • The $165 Association fee is non-refundable.

The following stipulations apply to the Session 1 and Session 2 fees.

  • Withdrawals prior to October 1st would receive a 75% refund of fees paid.
  • Withdrawals between October 2nd and October 31st would receive a 50% refund of the Session 1 Fee (and any of the Session 2 fee already paid).
  • Withdrawals between November 1st and November 14th would receive a 25% refund of the Session 1 Fee (and any of the Session 2 fee already paid).
  • No refunds will be provided after November 14th for the Session 1 Fee (and any of the Session 2 fee already paid).
  • Withdrawals between December 15th and January 13th would receive a 75% refund of the Session 2 Fee.
  • Withdrawals between January 14th and February 14th would receive a 50% refund of the Session 2 Fee.
  • Withdrawals between February 15th and February 28th would receive a 25% refund of the Session 2 Fee.
  • No refunds will be provided after March 1st for the Session 2 Fee.

  • If the program is temporarily shut down for public health reasons, for example, if there is a positive case reported, we are still obligated to fulfill our contractual obligations, and cannot guarantee a refund.
  • If sessions are cancelled because of provincial order or by the City of Hamilton, a refund of the Session 1/2 fees paid less ice used to date and less the $165 Association fee would apply.
  • There will be no refunds issued for missed ice times due to illness, injury, or leave for personal reasons.
  • Should we be unable to fulfill a program, the FGHA reserves the right to cancel the program and provide participants with a full refund less any ice used and less the $165 Association fee.
