The Flamborough Falcons Bantam team came home with the gold medal from the highly competitive Niagara Rapids Fall Classic this past weekend.
After finishing first in their pool with a 3-0-1 record, the Falcons mounted a third period comeback by scoring three unanswered goals to win 3-2 over the Mississauga Hurricanes in their semi-final game.
In the final, the Falcons had a rematch against the Walkerton Capitals, who the Falcons tied 3-3 in the pool round. The Falcons built a two goal lead in the 1st period as Hailey Cone and Lizzy Schattauer scored. But the Capitals worked their way back into it, scoring once in the 2nd period and again in the 3rd to tie it up.
Midway through the 3rd period, Samara Carmody was sent in alone and made no mistake, putting the Falcons up 3-2. The Falcons were then able to shut down the Capitals until the end of the game, giving us the championship.
The team showed great character and determination throughout the tournament as they had to come from behind in the 3rd period in three separate games.
Congratulations to all the players and coaches!
